A New Day

The new day approached
with an unfelt cheer
the smiling sun reproached
my heartfelt sneer

Bright light spilled
into my dull, dark room
it convincingly drilled
a near fateful doom

Happiness was a distant song
while I was shrouded in dismay
and deep down I knew I longed
to see its cheerful wave

I tried but failed
to crack a smile
for appearance's sake
the task seemed futile

A tawny bird frolicked
to my windowsill
I saw it slightly limped
yet its attempts didn't dim

I know why
It knew life was
to short to lament
each day has
a new meaning...

Let’s celebrate laughter together…on World Laughter Day
