Change

She was gazing into the night sky dotted with billions of specks of light. Craving, for a change, for something ethereal to happen and whisk her away in its charms. And then it did.

A piece of a star fell from the sky and into her hands. It had a soft, warm glow, almost too bright to look at. Squinting, she handled it like the most priceless thing in the world. Call it intuition, but she knew it wasn’t hers to keep. So she put it back in the sky. It was the most painful thing she’d ever had to do and that she’d ever done. But what was hers was hers. Whether it was up in the sky or there in her hands. And one day, it’d fall from the sky and become a part of her again and that time, she wouldn’t have to put it back in the sky again.

She recalled it’s beauty. It had been like a freshly blossomed flower. If you liked the flower, you would pluck it to watch its colours, inhale its scent, but if you loved it, it would remain on the plant which you would water everyday and watch more grow. Perhaps, it had been a sign. A token, sent to make her aware of all the light in the world. So, change she did and oh boy, was it a lovely change! Let’s leave that to your fantasies, though. How she molded her life could be us, one day. Each of us has a different story. Each is how this one ends.

It started a friendship, their small talk,
It blossomed a garden, the fresh water,
And it's scents pleased people for blocks
It eased and soothed the the mind and soul

That one step towards blinding light
started a journey so full of might
That dazzling smile so perfectly displayed
Changed and brightened a glum day

That act of kindness on a face so tough
Made them believe that life was more
That one word of hope and love
And they knew they were never alone

  1. This is the most beautiful piece coming from you till date! I loved this sooo much Aditi. Couldn’t stop reading it over and over again. “If you liked the flower, you would pluck it to watch its colours, inhale its scent, but if you loved it, it would remain on the plant which you would water everyday and watch more grow.” These lines are incredibly moving! πŸ˜„
I could say something about each line. πŸ‘πŸ‘
